La Trigueña: A Celebration of Strength and Spirit In my latest painting,
"La Trigueña," part of the "Las Caridades" collection, I pay homage to the beautiful brunettes of the island, whose rich, warm tones reflect the vibrant essence of Cuba's diverse culture. This piece intertwines the powerful figures of La Caridad del Cobre and Yemaya, two spiritual beings whose influence resonates deeply within the hearts of many.
The number three holds profound significance for both La Caridad and Yemaya. La Caridad del Cobre is often associated with the Holy Trinity, symbolizing the interconnectedness of faith, hope, and love. Similarly, Yemaya, the goddess of the sea, is celebrated in many African traditions as a triad of strength, fertility, and protection. This sacred number emphasizes the idea of unity, embodying the strength found in community and the bonds that tie us to our heritage.
In "La Trigueña," the representation of the trigueñas—brunettes with deep, enchanting features—serves as a powerful metaphor for resilience and magic. Just as La Caridad and Yemaya are revered for their nurturing and protective qualities, the trigueñas symbolize the strength and beauty of women who carry the spirit of their ancestors. They embody the essence of the island, merging the divine with the earthly, and showcasing the magical allure that is woven into the very fabric of Cuban identity.
Through vibrant colors and fluid forms, "La Trigueña" captures the essence of these strong women, inviting viewers to recognize their own power and connection to the divine feminine. This painting is a tribute to the spirit of Las Caridades, celebrating the strength, magic, and unwavering grace that define the women of the island and the spiritual beings who guide them.
