ARTIST STATEMENT
My artistic journey began at a young age when I first encountered graffiti on the streets of Miami. Even though it was many years ago, that moment left an indelible mark on me. The curiosity and fascination I felt that day ignited a lifelong passion for understanding the style, message, and inspiration behind this art form.
Growing up in a Cuban-American household in Miami's vibrant little Havana neighborhood, I was surrounded by a community of exiles who instilled in me the importance of using my voice and expressing my passion for life and freedom. This upbringing has greatly influenced my artistic expression, which seamlessly merges Abstract Expressionism with the raw energy of street art.
My art serves as a reflection of my culture and community, weaving together various elements that define my identity. I approach the canvas as if it were a concrete wall, using it as a platform to convey my message. Drawing inspiration from the spiritual guides of the Afro-Cuban Orishas to the rebellious spirit of our contemporary world, my paintings embody the rebelliousness of a teenager in the 80s who stumbles upon a hidden world of letters, characters, and vibrant colors.
Through my art, I aim to capture the essence of my heritage, the struggles of my community, and the universal themes that connect us all. Each stroke of the brush is a testament to the power of self-expression and the ability of art to transcend boundaries. Join me on this artistic journey as we explore the intersection of Abstract Expressionism and street art, and delve into the rich tapestry of culture, history, and personal experiences that shape my work.
